Recommended course length: 2 days
Prerequisites: Working knowledge of DOS and PC’s is required. Basic knowledge of networking is helpful.
PC Support Specialist
This hands-on course gives students the knowledge and experience necessary to keep all of their microcomputer systems at peak performance. This course shows the latest support techniques from successful help desks across the nation. This vital information will allows more time to manage real responsibilities, instead of constantly handling crises.
Students will learn how adding new storage devices (CD-ROM, DAT, Tape devices) will give more power to their systems, but also might generate a new set of headaches. Discuss messaging interrupts and other hardware conflicts when adjusting high-tech devices for current systems. Students will also examine PC’s in detail, discover EISA, ISA, MCA, and new bus systems, recover lost files, password-protect their systems, and defragment hard drives for faster performance and longer life.
Target Student
Individuals who are familiar with microcomputers from an application perspective, but find that they need to be familiar with the hardware components.
Hands-On Exercises:
Modify CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to get optimum system performance.
Set up your system to support multiple DOS Configurations.
Run diagnostic programs to check for viruses.
Identify hardware components, including system bus structures, microprocessor (by manufacturer, model number and speed), and BIOS ROM.
Configure and test system RAM memory.
Install and setup a hard disk for use with DOS.
Optimize and test a hard disk, including disk defragmentation and non-destructive surface analysis.
